Spiritual Growth

Because the life of followers of Jesus Christ is one of learning and growing, we are committed to helping people do exactly that.

For Children:

Intergenerational events at CTL keep our children connected to the church and let them know how much they are loved by the whole congregation.  Come and see!  Show your support!

We welcomed a part-time deaconess into our midst.  She is working with the children and youth and their families at CTL and combining some activities with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  We look forward to learning together and to exciting activities in the years ahead.

We also offer a nursery for younger children during the service.

For Youth:

A NEW kind of confirmation class begins this fall on September 12th at 6 p.m.  This year all children grades 3 and up are encouraged to participate in hopes of giving our children more opportunities to learn about the faith.  Parents, child, and Pastor will decide collectively when a child is ready to be confirmed.  Our expectation is that most children will spend at least three years in the program.  Parents are encouraged to attend the first class and hear how the class will run this year.

This year Christ the Lord will operate their class in conjunction with Holy Trinity in Elgin to allow for an even larger group of participants.  The classes will be held both at Christ the Lord and also at Holy Trinity.  Deaconess Andrea and Pastor Jeff Mikyska will share in the teaching.

For Adults:

Bible Study Groups meet at various times, and we’re always open to adding new ones.  One group meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 at the church.  Another, Bible and Brew (or other Beverage), meets on Tuesday evenings at a local restaurant.  Yes, you can have a beer if you like, while we study God’s word! An evening Faith Sharing Group is a welcoming lay-led group, meeting in homes, that focuses on discussions of faith through the mediums of Reader’s Theater, Books on Biblical Women, Living Faith and current social issues

We have a prayer group meeting weekly on Tuesdays to pray for the church and members.

Retreats are held at various times throughout the year often at retreat centers in beautiful settings that allow us to clear our minds and focus on how God speaks to us when we’re able to listen and be refreshed.
